When you "give a bike" you buy a gift card for someone you care about. You pay and then download a pdf that you can print out and put in an envelope as a gift.
The amount goes exclusively to transport one of our reliable iron horses, which we send to our network of NGOs in Ukraine. We obtain the bicycles either from the police's lost property in four police districts or from private bicycle collections around Europe.
Since June 2022, we have sent over 900 bicycles to over 35 cities and villages throughout Ukraine. We send them to our partner NGOs and local SOSUs and volunteers (approx. 90% women) use them to deliver food, water, medicine and humanitarian goods to the most vulnerable citizens in the most devastated areas of the country. The bikes make a difference every single day.
For every 200 bikes sold through these gift certificates, we have enough for a truck to Ukraine. We expect to ship the first load in January 2024.
Every year in Denmark we scrap 400,000 (!) bicycles. We think that many of those who have to be sent for recycling can instead get a new life in Ukraine.
Thank you for helping us give the Ukrainians a boost in a very Danish way - bicycles.
